Monday Momentum

Happy Monday!

Do you ever wake up in the morning feeling like you just had the best sleep of your life? That was me earlier. I jumped out of bed feeling like there was no way that my day would be any less than spectacular.

Unfortunately my energy has since declined and I am finding it hard to keep up the momentum of my day after some miscommunication regarding my first client, who was unable to make her appointment due to circumstances out of her control (or mine, for that matter). I feel a bit of mental whiplash from the abrupt realization, and frustration knowing that the situation could have turned out differently with just a little communication.

Now, I am sitting at my desk with a cup of coffee, a restless brain and an hour of time to kill, attempting to get back on track after derailing so easily.

I am sure this happens to everyone from time to time. When this happens to me, I find it difficult to muster up the energy to tackle the entire day and generally end up completing none of the tasks that I had anticipated finishing. It is easy to become discouraged when your day does not go quite as planned, but that is no reason to throw in the towel so early.

To counter this, I have developed a little system where I first begin by throwing away my list. Yup, out the window.

I start from scratch by choosing one small task and focusing on its completion alone. Once finished, I move on to a second task, and then a third, and before I know it my day has magically become a productive one!

Having a list can often be daunting and discouraging, so starting fresh without looking too far ahead is a good way to build some momentum. By choosing simple tasks to start, you can reach completion rather quickly, and the feeling of accomplishment builds the confidence to tackle larger and more complicated tasks.

For instance, I started with a cup of coffee and healthy breakfast. Who doesn’t feel great after that?

Following that I have now made a point to sit down and reach out to you guys (since I am long past due to do so), which helps me feel more connected to the world.

With two clients remaining, I am confident that I will end the afternoon on a high note and set the tone for a productive evening. Maybe I will run some errands or do some cleaning at home.

Though these things are minuscule compared to some of the tasks that await me, they are a good start. With the whole week ahead, I still have plenty of time to accomplish what I need to (and maybe more)!

As always, I would like to share a song with you; one which seems appropriate as it starts peacefully and steadily builds to a strong and beautiful energy. I first heard this song almost four years ago and fell in love with it instantly. Beyond All Walking is a beautiful collaboration between two talented artists of contrasting styles who together call themselves Dutch. I will say no more as the song may speak for itself.

Wishing you a productive Monday with plenty of momentum to carry you through the week.

Sincerely,

Randi

What a lovely post…thanks for sharing and for offering us the benefit of your experiences/wisdom…being derailed can be so frustrating, but, as you say, making a choice to get back on track (albeit an alternate one) is ours for the making. 🙂

I read this post again….second time, enjoyed it just as much….and I love the line in the song…”if you take it–take it easy….
As to your Happy Monday greeting, and the above song lyric, you might enjoy my post “Take It Easy Like Monday Morning, Comradores…”
It’s an older one, but it ties to what you shared…and, no expectation or pressure…I am just happy to connect with you, again 🙂 Take care 🙂
